Opt-Out

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

     2023 Annual Term: 07/13/2023 to 07/24//2023


Waiver Criteria for Opting Out of SHIP

 If you have other health insurance, such as coverage under your parent’s or employer’s insurance plan, and you do not wish to enroll in Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine's Student Health Insurance Plan, you may opt out, but only if the benefits under your existing coverage include all of the following:

  • Coverage must be active and continuous (no break or termination) for the entire academic year;
  • Coverage must be Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant;
  • Maximum benefit must be unlimited;  
  • Deductible must be $1,000 for Individual / $3,000 for Family. or less. per Policy Year;
  • Claims must be paid by a U.S.-based company, and underwriting company must be owned, operated, and headquartered in the U.S. and must be in full compliance with all applicable federal laws;
  • A provider network within 25 miles of the KansasCOM area for primary routine care, specialty, hospital, and diagnostic care; and
  • Plan must provide coverage in all 50 states.
